![]() One character (I won’t say who) is completely one-note and gave a performance that was a huge step down from their role in the previous films. Tommy Lee Jones once again plays his character as the bored old man who really couldn’t care any less about what’s going on. It’s all over the place! I couldn’t tell if she was American, British, Irish, etc. Plus, as great of an actress Alicia Vikander is (she won the Oscar this year for Best Supporting Actress), her accent work in this movie is atrocious. Yeah, for a movie named “Jason Bourne,” it’s alarming how little he says and how often he’s not on screen. And oh, by the way, Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander get more screen time than Matt Damon. This story is very convoluted and actually makes less sense to me as I try to recall it for this review. More than that though, we get a completely different story revolving around Jason’s father’s attachment to the program and, even worse, a storyline about a web/app/program(?) developer (Ahmed) and how he crossed the CIA Director (Jones) the wrong way. Apparently, he had a little bit left to remember. As the very beginning reminds us, Jason Bourne (or rather David Webb, his real name which I totally forgot about - seriously!) has remembered everything about his past and how he became the super agent we all know. ![]() However, those action scenes and Matt Damon are the only sense of Bourne that we get, unfortunately. ![]() Being a Bourne film, you gotta have quick kinetic action scenes too, amirite? Luckily, there are a couple really cool scenes that are truly exciting and shot in classic Greengrass shaky-cam, bringing back the feeling that yes, Bourne is back. Joined by Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, and Riz Ahmed, we really have a great cast here. As a fan of the series, I was stoked to see Matt Damon come back to the big screen as Jason Bourne, as well as the return of director Paul Greengrass, who did “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” After almost a decade away, it was really cool seeing them team up again to continue with this awesome franchise. ![]()
